Abstract

Controlling non-optimal drug inventory in community pharmacies is still a major challenge that impacts cost inefficiencies, the risk of stock shortages, and increased drug expiration. This study aimed to analyze the control of drug inventory at Hafshawaty Zainul Hasan Pharmacy using the ABC-VEN combination method based on retrospective data from the digital system. This quantitative descriptive study analyzed 482 drug items for the January-December 2025 period. The ABC method classifies drugs based on investment value, while VEN is based on level of clinical urgency (Vital, Essential, Non Essential). The results of ABC's analysis showed that category A consisted of 106 items (22%) with an investment value of IDR 204.4 million (66%), category B 107 items (23%) with a value of IDR 59.7 million (19%), and category C 269 items (55%) with an investment value of IDR 44.0 million (15%). The combination of ABC-VEN resulted in priority I (AV, BV, CV, AE, AN) as many as 116 items with an investment of IDR 206.5 million, priority II (BE, CE, BN) 326 items (IDR 95.9 million), and priority III (CN) 40 items (IDR 5.7 million). This research provides a practical contribution for pharmacies in determining inventory control priorities in a more targeted manner by considering financial and clinical aspects simultaneously. In conclusion, the combination method of ABC-VEN based on the digital system is effective in identifying control priorities, with recommendations for strict supervision in priority category I as well as rationalization evaluation in the CN group to prevent overstock. The next research is suggested to add EOQ, ROP, and safety stock methods to optimize more comprehensive inventory management.
